  1. The T5008 pages in UFile look identical because there is only one actual form T5008. The results however are quite different: - data entered in the "investment income" page generate entries in Schedule 4 - data entered in the "capital gains/losses" page generate entries in Schedule 3 As the T5008 form your received relates to shares you sold you use the "capital gains/losses" T5008. However be careful not to duplicate your entries. When you sold your shares you might have received a transaction sheet which you then use to make an entry in the Capital gains section of UFile. If this is your situation do not use the T5008 page.
  2. When RRSP undeducted contributions are accepted into the Interview they are recorded correctly as "Undeducted contributions" Unfortunately they are also recorded incorrectly as "Undeducted contributions you made to your spouse's" (plan) When the taxpayer is without a spouse these erroneous contributions are hidden as there is no section Contributions you made to your spouse's RRSP. Corrective procedure Open your file 1) Change your marital status - access your "Identification" page - change your Marital status for "Married" or "Common-law spouse" - click Next 2) Erase the erroneous contributions - access your "RRSP contributions, limits" page the section "Contributions you made to your spouse's RRSP" is visible - erase all "Undeducted contributions you made to your spouse's" 3) Re-instate your marital status - access your Identification page - change your Marital status back to what it was - click Next 4) Save your file
  3. My understanding is that the only data showing in your RL-1 is the amount of Quebec tax withheld in Box E. If you try to enter the data in a T4 income earned in Quebec you will get error messages. Use a T4A page instead (in the pension group). Enter the Quebec tax in Box RL-1 box E. Verify your results. The Quebec tax withheld is added in Line 437. Details for Line 437 are shown in the Worksheet (Federal) of your Return package.
  4. What is the code that shows in Box 14 (or 24) of your NR4 slip?
  5. Did you use the CRA Auto-fill my return feature in UFile?
  6. All you need to do is to enter the data pertaining to Boxes 119 and 135 in the T4A page. UFile will then take care of the calculations and report: - Box 119 on line 104 - Box 135 as part of the medical expenses of your parents
  7. First there is no check box "I had no income" for a dependent. There is a question in the dependent Identification page. Now is it possible that you elected to declare the UCCB you received as income for your daughter? This will introduce income for your daughter and you need to answer "Yes" to the income question.
  8. You will find the answer in Schedule 8. Go to Part 5, line 23. You are probably in a situation of CPP overpayment. CRA refuses to let a software calculate the overpayment. They will advise you in your Notice of assessment. You have nothing to change in your data. The diagnostic is there to warn you about the situation.
  9. You are absolutely right. The Notes feature was, for some reason, available only in UFile ONLINE. We shall try to get it back.
  10. The blank page is in the place reserved for the Quebec bar code TPF-1.U. The bar code is not supported in UFile ONLINE. If you look at the Return you will see a mockup flagged as Specimen which is used in both Windows and ONLINE products.

How was your spouse defined in your 2014 file? - Complete information - or Net income only
  12. You will find the answer in your Schedule 8. Go to Part 5, line 23. You are probably in a situation of CPP overpayment. CRA refuses to let a software calculate the overpayment. They will advise you in your Notice of assessment. You have nothing to change in your data. The diagnostic is there to warn you about the situation.
  13. Open a T4A page. Locate Other information 028+ Click on the small triangle. Select [154] Cash award or prize from payer. Enter the amount. Verify line 130 in your return. You can see the detail in the Worksheet (Federal).
  14. Vérifiez la saisie de vos données. Avez-vous choisi la page T5008 - gains en capital? Auriez-vous inversé Coût et Produit de disposition?
  15. The fact that is missed by many people is that in Canada there is no "joint filing" as there is in the States.
  16. The purpose of opening another field when you click on the Canadian flag next to a box is to provide you with the capability you are looking for, i.e. enter a provincial amount that is different from the federal amount. When there is no value for the federal field you need to enter 0.00 (zero) for the other field to open up.
  17. You CANNOT install both a CVITP activation key and a PRO activation key. You need to set up TWO (2) distinct accounts on your computer, - one to be used as PRO - the other one to be used as CVITP Ufile needs to be installed once and once only. You can use the account you have now for your CVITP related activities. Set up another account. Start UFile. Activate the program with your PRO Activation key. You will get the T183 form (when EFILE eligible).
  18. As Tushaar quoted, "Family caregiver amount for children under 18 years of age – The amount for children under 18 years of age has been eliminated and replaced by the enhanced universal child care benefit. Line 367 is now used for the family caregiver amount for children under 18 years of age." To be eligible a child must have an impairment in physical or mental functions. Consult the Federal Guide, pages 4 and 44.

    T4 no RL1

As I understand your text you did not receive a Relevé 1, you received instead a "notice of taxable benefits". Could you quote the exact text of the notice or scan it and insert the image in your reply?

    Claiming Dependent

You are probably in a situation where you have employment and self-employment. Look at your Schedule 8, Part 5. As you say that you have an overpayment Line 23 is probably negative. If this is the situation CRA is insisting, as per the note indicated by two asterisks **, that they will calculate the repayment for you. They refuse to let the software do the calculations and show the overpayment on Line 448.
  21. In the Investment section look for Carrying charges or interest expenses. Click on the + sign. Enter the fees in Carrying charges ... (management fees).
  22. You do not see 107 because you selected a T4A page that does not correspond to your situation. Select "T4A - Pension, retirement income, annuity and other income"
  23. The watermark that appears on the T1 Condensed return after EFILE has been successful is a new requirement from the CRA for tax year 2015. The watermark cannot be turned off once EFILE has been successful.
  24. You say that you are an emigrant, i.e. you left Canada during 2015. You are not entitled to the Family tax cut as you and your spouse were not residents of Canada on December 31st, 2015.
  25. The T5008 form is quite treacherous as it indicates a Cost of nil. You set the Cost or book value of the shares (Box 20) as $Z. As the proceeds $Y is higher than the cost $Z you will report a Capital gain on Schedule 3. The amount of your contribution to your TFSA is $Y. For more information see Guide RC4466, TFSA, Guide for individuals http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/E/pub/tg/rc4466/rc4466-15e.pdf
