  4. The program will claim the caregiver amount automatically in your file if all the criteria are met, based on the dependant's age, disability status and relationship to you. In order to trigger the automatic calculation, you have to have a file of the dependant linked to your own. In order to add a dependant to your file, follow these steps: 1- Above your name in the "QuikClik Navigator", located on the left-hand side of the screen, click on the option "Add family member". 2- On the page that will appear to your right, click on "Add a dependant". 3- Complete their Interview accordingly. Should you want to control who should claim the caregiver amount for this dependant (for a married or common-law couple) or disable the automatic claim of this credit performed by the program, follow these steps: 1- Under "Select a family member", choose the dependant's return (the family member must be entered as a dependant). 2- Under the "QuikClik Navigator" select "Medical, disability, caregiver". 3- In the "Dependant's medical expenses, infirmity and disability" screen, choose"Caregiver amount to claim for this dependant (line 315, Quebec line 462)". 4- Complete the section accordingly.
  5. To claim the amount for a disabled person who is your dependant, you should specify the disability of that person in the dependant's file. To do so, follow the steps below: 1- In the "QuikClik Navigator" of the dependent's file, located on the left-hand side of the screen, select "Medical, disability, caregiver". 2- In the screen on your right, select the option "Infirmity and disability amounts for the dependant". 3- In the page "Dependant infirmity and disability", enter the relevant information. Schedule 5 will be generated by the program in the family head's file, and the non-refundable credit for caregivers will be reported on line 315 of federal Schedule 1. As for the non-refundable credit for people with disabilities transferred from a dependent, it will be reported on line 318 of federal Schedule 1. For Quebec residents, if you wish to claim the caregiver amount, follow these steps: 1- In the "QuikClik Navigator" of the family head's file, select "Quebec credits". 2- In the screen on your right, choose "Quebec line 462 - Schedule H - Dwelling information for the tax credit for caregiver". 3- In this page, from the drop-down menu, select the option that fits your situation. The program will generate Quebec Schedule H and will carry over the amount of refundable credit on line 462 of the Quebec return.

    To resolve this problem, Microsoft suggests uninstalling the program in question, in this case UFile, using their "Fix it" utility, and then reinstalling the program. For information about how to download, install, and use the "Microsoft Fix it" utility, consult the following articles in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2438651 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/325084/ After removing the UFile program using the "Microsoft Fix it" utility, you may reinstall UFile again.

  10. Please remove and reinstall UFile 2013. To remove UFile for Windows, follow these instructions: 1. Go to "Start". 2. Go to "Settings". 3. Select "Control Panel". 4. In the new screen , select "Programs and Features". 5. Locate UFile 2013 and click "Remove". 6. Locate UFile Updater 2013 and click "Remove". 7. Locate MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB954430) and click "Remove". 8. Locate MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB973688) and click "Remove". 9. Locate MSXML4SP2 and click "Remove". 10. Locate Soap 3.0 Toolkit and click "Remove". To reinstall, download the latest complete installation of UFile 2013 from this link: http://downloads.drtax.ca/ufile/UF2013EGYH34U86GA23WHUS4/UFile2013.exe NOTE : Do not choose "Run". Choose "Save" and save it to your Desktop, then run (re-install) it from there. If you have Windows Vista, 7 or 8, please try running the program as the Administrator. To do this, hold down the SHIFT key and right-click the shortcut to UFile 2013. Select "Run As ..." in the drop-down menu and choose to run it as the Administrator.
  11. Combine refunds between spouse In the "QuikClik Navigator", located on the left-hand side of the screen, select "Refund or balance owing" and click on "Transfer your Quebec refund to your spouse". Make sure however that you are in the return of the spouse who qualifies for a refund.

If you disposed of property that qualifies for the capital gains exemption during the taxation year, namely: a) Qualified small business corporation shares. b) Qualified farm property. c) Qualified fishing property. Please follow the steps below: 1- In the "QuikClik Navigator", located to the left-hand side of the screen, select "Interview setup". 2- In the "Income" section, check the box for "Capital gains (or losses)" and click "Next" at the bottom of the page. 3- Return to the "QuikClik Navigator" and choose the item "Capital gains and ABIL". 4- On the screen to your right, select the appropriate item, in this case "Qualified small business corporation shares (QSBCS)" and enter your information on capital gains on this page. The program will carry over your capital gains deduction on line 254 of the federal return and, for Quebec residents, on line 292 of the Quebec return. In addition, the program will generate federal Form T657 and Quebec Form TP-726.7.   16. You can use the program to make an adjustment on a tax return that has already been filed. On the "Interview setup" page, in the "Other" section, check off "Adjustment request for a tax return that has been filed" and click "Next". "Adjustment request" will appear in the "QuikClik Navigator". Click this option and select the form you need to fill out on the right-hand side of the page. You can also either contact the CRA or Revenu Quebec to order the form that you will fill out and resubmit by mail or visit "My Account" at the CRA website (www.cra-arc.gc.ca/myaccount/) to complete the T1-ADJ Adjustment Request form online. If you are using the program, you will have to print out and mail the completed T1-ADJ plus copies of any relevant documents. You cannot transmit a T1-ADJ via NETFILE. The CRA will send you a new Notice of assessment after they have processed the adjustment.

  19. You have received a T4A slip with an amount in box 048, for the professional fees you earned. It should be noted that this amount does not include taxes. To enter this amount in the program, follow the steps below: 1- In the "QuikClik Navigator" located on the left-hand side of the screen, click on "Pension income, T4A, split pension". 2- On the page appearing on the right, select "T4A - Pension, retirement, annuity, and other income". 3- On the newly generated page, enter the amount from box 048 of the T4A slip on the line "Box 048 - fees for services (report this amount as a T2125 - Business or Professional income)". 4- Return to the "QuikClik Navigator" and click on "Interview setup". 5- On the page appearing on the right, select "Self-employed business income" and click "Next". 6- In the "QuikClik Navigator", click on the line "Self-employment income" and, on the page appearing on the right, select either "T2125 - Business income" or "T2125 - Professional income" . 7- On the page "T2125 - Business identification", enter the name of the business on the line "Name of the professional business (or your own name if the business does not have one)", then enter the other information in the required fields marked with a red asterisk. 8- In the field for "6-digit code from the North American industry classification system", enter the code that best describes your industry. If you do not know the code, click on the tool tip (the question mark) (?) on the right-hand side of the box to get it. 9- On the next page, "Professional income and expenses", enter $0.00 for the line "Gross professional fees including work-in-progress (WIP) and GST/HST collected or collectible" and enter the amount of box 048 of the T4A on the line "Fees for services (T4A Box 048)". If you have expenses, enter them in the boxes corresponding to their description. 10- For expenses, if your company is registered for the GST and HST (QST), these expenses must be entered before taxes to reflect the ITRs and ITCs you claimed. The amount will be reported on lines 162 or 164 and 135 or 137 of the federal return. If applicable, this amount will also appear on line 154 of the Quebec return as well as line 25 of Quebec Schedule L. The program will also generate federal form T2125, as well as Quebec form TP-80 if required.
  20. You have received a T4A slip with an amount entered in Box 028, because you have received other assistance. To report this amount, in the "QuikClik Navigator", located on the left-hand side of the screen, select "Pension income, T4A, split pension". On the page to the right, select "T4A - Pension, retirement, annuity, and other income". You must enter the amount in the section "Other information". In the drop-down menu, choose the line "Other assistance". If the amount in Box O of the RL-1 differs from the amount shown on the T4A slip, click on the "Maple Leaf/Fleur de Lys" icon of the corresponding box and a new box will be displayed where you can enter the amount for Quebec. This box will only be displayed if you have entered the federal amount first. The amount will be transferred to line 130 of the federal return and line 154 in the Quebec return.
  21. The Working Income Tax Benefit (WITB) is a refundable credit that is automatically generated by the program. If you are eligible to this credit, the amount is reported on line 453 of the federal tax return and federal Schedule 6 is generated by the program.
