  1. Hi @Farshad,

    To activate ReFILE, you must first file the original return with UFile and then use the ReFILE service but since her return was already filed in a different way (or account) then you unfortunately cannot ReFILE her return. I would suggest for her to access "MyAccount" for CRA where she can make changes to her return or submit a T1-ADJ form or she can contact CRA by phone to request a change.

    Thank you,

  4. Hi @ELW,

    Normally, the program optimizes the transfer of credits and deductions between spouses to minimize the amount of tax payable. However, with the options offered, you can force the program to give all available deductions and credits to the person of your choice.

    Remember that if you choose to force the program to assign these amounts to one spouse rather than the other, you are in effect bypassing certain family optimization routines as a result; this may increase the amount of tax payable for the whole family.

  5. Hi @Fernando50,

    To proceed with NETFILE's online transmission, you must agree to the Terms and conditions. Tick the box "I agree with the NETFILE Terms and Conditions and Privacy Notice"; If your information is correct, click "File my return now!".

  6. Hi @Gerry P,

    Please note that there is no automatic way to carry forward the information of a member who leaves the family.

    This person must enter all the information in a new file (UFile for Windows) or in a new account  (UFile ONLINE).

    However, do not forget to report any amount that can be postponed. These carry forwards are usually listed on the Notice of Assessment they received in the previous year.

    Also, check the "Summary of carry forward amounts" page under the tab "Tax return" of the previous year.

    Remember to remove this person from your family file. To do this, click to the left of the family member and a pop-up window will appear with the prompt  "Are you sure you want to delete this family member?".  By clicking "Yes", you will delete all the data of this person.

    The information from prior years is carried forward automatically between the same accounts for next years and if you create a new account then you can import the prior year UFile for Windows file (.uXX) to UFile Web.

    Thank you,

  7. Hi @bfwireless,

    To claim childcare expenses, you must enter the expenses in the child's file.

    An eligible child was, at one time of the year, under the age of 16.

    However, if that child was your dependent or your spouse due to a physical or mental impairment. There is no age limit.

    To create a tax file for the child, please follow the steps below:

    1. Under the "Interview" tab, next to the "Family head" header, click on the "Add a dependant" option located to the right.

    2.On the "Left-side menu on the Interview tab", enter the information pertaining to the identification of the child in the "Dependant identification" page.

    3. Return to the "Left-side menu on the Interview tab" of the child's file, located on the left-hand side of the screen, and select "Childcare".

    4. On the screen appearing on the right, choose the type of childcare service provided (daycare, summer camp, boarding school, and babysitter).

    5. On the first line ''Amount paid to the daycare centre for this child", enter the federal amount claimed. If you are a Quebec resident and received an RL-24 slip the amount of "Box C" is the federal expense and "Box E" the eligible Quebec expense.

    6. For residents of Quebec, if you did not receive an RL-24 slip but only a receipt from the person, you need to enter the SIN of that person into Box H.

    Thanks,

  9. Hi @Son_of_a_tax,

    If she is not your dependant, then you must create a new account (file) for her so you do not claim credits you are not entitled to and so she can have her own different address from you as a family head.

    What is UFile's definition of a dependant?

    According to UFile, dependants are members of the taxpayer's family unit, usually children, parents or other relatives who:

    - live at the same address, at the end of the year, AND

    - are being financially supported by the designated family head and/or this person's spouse.

    Thank you,

    Hi Denis,

    I see on my CRA account that TD submits individual T5008 slips for each trade.  Can we import them into our Ufile form?

    Hi @alared,

    You can use the Auto-Fill My Return (AFR) service to download your information:

    https://www.ufile.ca/get-started/auto-fill-my-return

    You can communicate with CRA to determinate if your income is an investment, capital gain or a business.

    Business income T2125 are entered within the self-employment business income section and page.

    Hi Denis,

    I use the security code PTI, as provided on the T5008.
    It is being included as capital gains on line 12700.

    Is there any other option or way to move it Investment income (so that it is 100% taxable) instead of 50% taxable?

    Hi @Tax14,

    I meant the security type as you can choose Stripped bonds or Treasury bills to have investment income at line 121000.

  14. Hi @Jay666,

    Enter the amount of interest paid on student loans that you have not yet deducted. You can claim the interest for the current year and any interest on loans carried forward from previous years.

    For Quebec residents, enter the unclaimed amount from previous years on the line "Interest paid on student loans in prior years and not claimed - Quebec (Schedule M)"

    Please consult both your federal and Quebec notices of assessment to determine the amount you can claim from previous years.

    To enter the amount of interest paid on student loans, please follow the steps below:

    1. On the "Left-side menu on the Interview tab", select the "Interview setup".

    2. Then, on the page that appears on your right, go to the "Student" group, check the box for "Education, tuition, textbooks, student loans and Canada training credit" and click on "Next" at the bottom of the page.

    3. Return to the "Left-side menu on the Interview tab", select the "Tuition, education, student loans" and, on the right-hand side, choose the option "Interest paid on your student loans (line 31900)".

    4. On the page that appears, enter the amount you paid to your bank on the line "Interest paid on a student loan in 2021".

    5. If you want to limit the amount of interest paid and carry forward the remainder to another year, enter the amount claimed this year on the line "Limit the amount of student loan interest claimed."

    6. For residents of Quebec, if you want to claim or limit your amount, click on the "Maple leaf" icon located to the right of the line to generate a new field for the Quebec amount. Then, enter the amount for Quebec. This box will only appear if you have previously entered the federal amount.

    The unused portion can be carried forward to be used in future years. The program will report this information in the "Summary of carryforward amounts" in the "Tax return" tab.

    The program will claim the deduction this year on line 31900 of your federal return.

    For Quebec residents, Schedule M will be generated, and the amount will be carried over on line 385 of the Quebec return.

  15. Hi @KimG,

    UFile PRO is certified for Quebec submission. Please make sure your Quebec credentials are valid.

    UFile PRO allows you to transmit tax returns via EFILE. To do this, you must have a CRA Efile number and a password.

    This is how you would configure UFile in order to use the EFILE transmission.

    Click on the "settings" menu from the top-right corner, choose "EFILE - NetFile setup" and complete the information:

        A- In what capacity are you preparing tax returns? (Professional tax preparer);
        B- EFILE on line;
        C- Enter your CRA EFILE number along with your CRA EFILE password;
        D- Complete the page by entering your information from your EFILE registration;
        E- Once done, click "OK".

    IMPORTANT! If you are preparing a tax return for a Quebec resident, you must also check the box for "NetFile Quebec for professionals". Then, you must enter the NETFILE Quebec number and NETFILE Quebec password that you obtained from Revenu Quebec.

    Thank you,
