  1. Much of the data for parts C, D and E is shown in the uFile tax return, yet it is not prepopulated in the TIS60 form. Please correct this oversight. thank you.
  2. I saw the folder there too, but still had the error you described. The easiest solution is to simply reinstall UFile 2018, 2019 and 2020. All the registration info is preserved. You don’t have to re-enter your key or the eFile stuff. On 2020 re-install I got a message asking if I wanted to repair or delete. No other choice. I picked “repair” and got some sort of Windoz error. So I did “remove” and then reinstalled.
  3. Hi again. We would like to better understand the issue around why this ReFile function comes and goes from UFile. Last tax season, ReFile worked at the beginning of the season. It turns out several of our volunteers used it successfully. Then part way through the last season it disappeared with one of the updates. By “disappeared” I mean the option no longer showed in the left hand menu so you couldn’t select it. When our volunteers raised their objections we were told it would be back this year. We were pleased to see that it was, until we tried to use it and it failed. Our clinic did over 500 returns last year, with volunteers who are not tax professionals and only do this for a couple of months each year. Mistakes will be made. Sometimes we don’t catch them until after the return is filed. ReFile is a convenient way to correct mistakes without a lot of fuss writing and mailing an adjustment form. Who is making these decisions about whether this function is in or out or the software? We will work with them. thanks again!
  4. Thank you for the very detailed set of instructions. That’s a lot to go through. You can understand, I’m sure, why our volunteers would like to use ReFile instead! Our situation is complicated by the fact our clinic does not have access to a printer. Thanks again.
  5. I have the same problem. Windoz automatically opens Edge when UFile tries to open IE. I had to log into repAClient and copy the tax slips over manually. I never did get AFR to work for 2020.
  6. A superficial loss is not reported because, well, it’s superficial! your spouse just sets his/her ACB appropriately. Now the problem you might have is your financial institution not knowing the correct ACB in this case. You might be able to have them correct the ACB they have, so that the T5008 ultimately issued when your spouse sells is correct. Alternatively keep track of it yourself and override or delete the slip when your spouse eventually sells the security.
  7. ReFile is back this year in the CVITP version. Thank you! But, while it activates, and you can correct a return, when you try to submit it in eFile it fails with an efile error 540. The text is “the software not certified for ReFile or has an invalid software code”. When will this be fixed?
  8. This morning I filed two returns as part of a CVITP clinic. After the eFile step uFile said the return was rejected. But eFile transmission history shows it as accepted. And the rest of the uFile result screen matches that of an accepted return, not a rejected one. The eFile helpdesk, told me both 180 and 181 are accepted returns. CRA needs to do something, he didn't say what, if it's a 181, but from the taxpayer's standpoint, and the tax preparer's standpoint, the return is accepted and no further action is required. Clearly uFile should not be flagging 181 result codes as "rejected".
  9. If you kept the .u20 file (the UFile file for 2020), once you have reinstalled UFile 2020, just double click on the .u20 file and it should open. Or open UFile 202 and instead of starting a new return select the option to open an existing return.
  10. I suppose you could fight your way through the unlock process with the CRA, or just print and mail a T1-ADJ form. You can write a letter with it to explain what happened. You don’t need to provide line by line adjustments even though the form has a place for that.
  11. Print, sign the form, and keep it on file in case it’s requested.
  12. IBM recently filed with CRA to have this spinoff qualify under a section 86.1 election. (Or maybe 85.1, I’ve forgotten which one applies here but it’s obvious if you look them up) Making the election allows you to defer income tax until you sell those shares, so that’s usually the better choice in most cases. However, I think you may have to file a paper return to make this election. Be sure to properly calculate your ACB for the new shares, and update the ACB for the remaining IBM ones. See the documents on making this election for the calculations. If you choose to do this, you omit the 5008 from UFile.
  13. I tend to delete the 5008s. You don’t need to include them in your return. As suggested by Curmudgen, just enter all the info on the gains/loss form. In many cases the ACB on the 5008 will not be correct. This is defiantly the case if you hold the same security in more than one unregistered account. The ACB has to be calculated across all the unregistered accounts, not account by account.
  14. Or just ignore the error like I do. I have no idea what’s wrong but everything seems to work fine if you ignore it.
  15. I’d guess cash surrender value of the policy, which is likely zero since most employer paid life policies are term life insurance policies. It’s just a guess though. The premium paid by your employer is probably a taxable benefit though. I get T4 every year from my Canadian employer that shows the premium for a group life policy.
  16. I might be wrong in this, but that would actually be a carry forward from last year would it not? But I’m guessing you didn’t enter it last year because you didn’t want to claim it. Rather than adjusting your 2020 return, I’d just stick the amount in the 2021 March-Dec) bucket and call it a day. If questioned, you can submit show the receipt and explain what you did. I await a better answer from someone smarter.
  17. I don’t think you can do that. Just forward their mail to them.
  18. You don’t actually have to use the T5008. There is another form for cap gains. You can find it under the section on investment income on UFile. You can enter the security etc manually. But with the number of transactions you have, I suspect your activity might be more properly classed (and taxed) as business income, not cap gains.
  19. You log on to the CRA site with your usual credentials… either your bank, or your CRA ID. If you are an authorized rep for that SIN it will download the data. This is for UFile Pro. …not sure how the other versions work…. If you get a “not authorized” message after you log on and try to access the SIN, then your RepID is not authorized for that person. wow, as I reread that, I could have explained it better I’m sure!
  20. You can carry forward one from last year, then you’ll have to add the other person as spouse and manually input their info or autofill it if authorized for that. Autofill brings in carry forward amounts, at least that has been my experience with uFile Pro….not sure about other versions.
