  1. My spouse was just approved for the disability tax credit so I filled out her info in that section and now I see her DTC transferred to me but I do not see the caregiver amount which I believe I am eligible for based on the information entered. How can I correct this?

    Caregiver Credit

    I have been using UFile for years. I have a dependent with a medical disability and have been claiming and receiving the caregiver credit. I carried forward the information from 2016. The caregiver credit for 2017 is not being applied to my return. My personal and income information is very similar and I should still be getting this credit. I have tried everything and have not been able to have the program apply the credit. Please Help!!

RRSP repayment question: If my spouse took RRSP withdrawal under the HBP in 2015 to buy our house, can he designate the RRSP contributions that he made in 2015 as repayments under the HBP on our tax return this year? He has always been continually contributing to his RRSPs (set up through his work) so the contributions are there. We want to designate the repayments in this tax return. Is it possible? Note that we haven't received the HBP Repayment schedule from CRA yet. I heard that they will come later (not sure when) but that we can also repay back as soon as we want. So we choose to do it now during this tax return with the contributions he has made in 2015. Caregiver question: How do we claim a portion of the Caregiver Amount as my mother lived with me in 2015 for half the year. I would like to claim 50% of the amount. When I go to check "claim a portion of this amount", Ufile would ask me to put in the "amount of this portion" that I want to claim. For the sake of an analogy, would I put in $2300 if I want to claim half of it, say if the maximum amount that can be claimed is $4600? Lastly, if my spouse and I claim our return together, I would create myself as the Family Head and I would just add a spouse. This should generate two returns so that we each could netfile separately, correct? We will use the UFile Online version. So spouse only has to pay $10 additional for his return? Is this correct? I want to make sure that he doesnt have to create his own user name and password account with Ufile to file again for himself. Thanks in advance for any assistance!
  4. Hi, My In laws, both over 75, lives with us and we intend to claim caregiver amount for both. They also provide childcare services when my wife and I are at work. We have a 5 year old and a 10 year old. My in laws immigrated to Canada two years ago and have no other income. Can we claim both caregiver amount ($4,608 each) and Child care expenses for two kids ($8000+$5000) ? Does my father in law need to report income of $13,000 ? if yes then how and which section ? Many thanks for the help.

Hi, I am claiming the Caregiver deduction and everything seems to be filling in correctly in the generated Schedule 5 except for the $2058 deduction which is supposed to be added to the $20,002 base amount. All the other fields with the dependent's income and condition are completed accurately. If anyone has any ideas on how to get the family caregiver amount of $2058 added to this part of Schedule 5, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

I'm claiming my mother for the Caregiver Amount (NOT the Primary Caregiver Amount) and have added her information to my file as a dependant but the program is not calculating the manitoba personal tax credit of 195 or the age amount of $113. Her income is $15,000 but her provincial credits page is blank. On my return, the caregiver amount is properly calculated. The error message on her results page says the provincial credits are not being claimed as her income is too high, which i know is incorrect as she would need at least 19,500 to lose her personal credit let alone her age amount. Please advise. Thank you.
  7. I have entered all 3 family members...spouses and dependant who qualifies for caregiver amount. The dependant does not have any income. I have followed the instructions provided by UFile and the amount still does not show up. I downloaded an update today...could that be part of the problem? This dependant is also eligible for the Child Fitness Credit of $1,000 because of a disability. I'm unable to get that form to show either. Help anyone?
