  1. I have entered my son's information on his tuition and education amounts from his T2202A into his return. But nothing comes up in my husband's (or my) returns. Have I missed something?
  2. Hi, My fiance took professional courses to start her own business. Should I: 1) Enter these amounts as tuition expenses 2) Enter these amounts as business expenses for professional development (Capital expenses). Do I have the choice?
  3. Hoping someone may know where and how do you carry forward unused federal and ontario tuition and education amounts from previous years and is there a limit, both in terms of amount and time? Thanks
  4. Hello, My wife has approximately $50,000 in federal and $50,000 in Ontario tax credits (she was a student for the past ten years). In late 2016 we moved to Nova Scotia and she started work here in early 2017. My question is, since we moved provinces, are are no longer paying Ontario taxes, does she lose those provincial credits or are they transferable? Thanks so much.
  5. I am a University student, my degree program is online except each year there is a two week required on campus residency, meaning I have quite a bit of travel expenses to fly across the country and stay for two weeks. I cannot find any reference to this situation with Revenue Canada, just wondering if anyone else has run into this and how they might have been able to claim it. Thanks.
  6. Hi there, I am trying to fill out my 2013 return, but I have concerns that there may be an error with respect to line 323. I was a student for one semester in 2013 and as such have filled out the 'Tuition, Education and Textbook Amounts' section in the interview (line 323). As far as what fields are filled out on that page: Ufile has automatically included carryover unused tuition amounts both federal and provincial. I have filled out both the 'description' and the 'amount' fields for 'Eligible tuition fees paid for 2013'. I have filled out the field for 'Months of full-time post-secondary studies (T2202/A Col C)'. I have also selected the option to carry forward unused amounts to the next year. However, when I finish the Interview and enter the Results page, line 323 is empty. My income in 2013 was quite low so I am wondering if that line is empty because the entire tuition amount is being carried forward to the next year. However, at the bottom of the page, in the 'MaxBack Notes and Analysis' section, under 'Optimizations', there is no mention of tuition amounts being carried forward (but unused student loan amounts are mentioned). So I am just wondering if this is normal and the amount is just being carried forward (and if there's anywhere to see how much will be carried forward to the next year) or if there is a possible error in calculations? I don't want to send in an incorrect return. Thanks for any help you can offer!

    Continuing Education

I took a continuing education workshop through a professional association. They issued me a letter indicating that I took the course, and the cost, indicating that I should save it for tax purposes. Where can I claim this type of expense? It is not a T2202A form and I don't think it qualifies for tuition since it was not at least 3 weeks in length.

    Tuition claim

Hello, is there a way to remove the "Education and textbook amounts for 2012" on line 322 at Schedule 11? Only a portion of my 2012 tution fees is claimable because my company reimbursed partially and therefore CRA said I cannot claim any "Education and textbook amounts". CRA gave me a review of this last year and then I had to manually file this part (frustrating!). There seems to be no way to modify this field since it's automatically computed by UFile based on the "Eligible tuition fees paid for 2012". Is there a way to make it modifiable? Thanks.
  9. Hi, This is my first year using Ufile and so far it has been smooth sailing! I had a question about the Tuition and Education section. I graduated in 2011 and started working in 2012 so for my 2012 tax return, I had Federal as well as Provincial Tuition carry forward I could use. I entered the Federal and Provincial carry forward amounts into the "Unused tuition and education amounts from prior years" as per the instructions and used the "MaxBack" option under "Treatment of unused tuition, education and textbook amounts". When I go to the summary, only the federal amount is applied. Why isn't the provincial amount being used as well? Will this mean that the Federal amount is being applied but the Provincial will be carried forward? Thanks!
