Spousal return lost?

Recommended Posts

We prepared our returns together by adding a family member-spouse. I selected 'complete information' in the first instance, filled it all in, and then much later went back and reselected 'net income only'. My spouse's info has disappeared with no warning. Any advice or is it somewhere else?

If you change from complete information to net income only, the software deletes the entered information.

There is actually a warning message before it does and you need to confirm that it's really what you want.

It clearly states that all the information will have to be entered again.

Thanks for your quick reply. I have used this program for several years so I am accustomed to it. I am quite sure no warning message came up but I don't want to test that theory as we have re-enteered our information. Is is possible that it is a pop-up and my computer blocks pop-ups? In the future what would you recommend? We want to know our stats without income splitting and then with splittling. Thank you.

You can decide the exact amount to be transferred to your spouse so you can put 1$ to see the difference with the optimized amount.

As a default, the program performs the pension income split between spouses automatically. There is no need for additional entries to trigger this automatic calculation.

On the other hand, if you want to indicate how much pension income to transfer to your spouse, please follow these steps:

1- In the "QuikClik Navigator", located on the left-hand side of the screen, click on "Interview setup".

2- Then, on the page appearing on the right, select "Pension income, T4A, split pension income" and click "Next" at the bottom of the page.

3- Back in the "QuikClik Navigator", click on "Pension income, T4A, split pension income".

4- Then, on the right-hand side, select "Split pension income with your spouse".

5- At the question "Do you wish to split eligible pension income with your spouse?" , choose "Transfer to spouse (if eligible)" and enter the transfer amount in box below.

For more information regarding pension income splitting, please refer to the CRA website:

If you are referring to Pension income splitting, you can do it in the Interview tab under Pension and Retirement Income page by choosing "Split pension income with your spouse" and then opting for "Do not transfer to spouse" for "Do you wish to split eligible pension".
