Disability Amount (line 316) - Do not wish to transfer to spouse

Recommended Posts

My husband is claiming line 316 - disability amount. He is already approved and set up with CRA. However, using UFile -- "If you have a spouse, any unused disability amount will be transferred to line 326 of your spouse's return." I am not set up with CRA to have my husband's amount transferred to me. So now UFile will not let me submit my tax return electronically. How can I override UFile so it will not transfer my husband's unused amount to my account and let me submit my tax return? We talked to CRA and it will take 2 months for them to update my account to allow the transfer of my husband's claim, which is too long.

The only solution is to file your return without the transfer of your husband's unused disability.

You will then, once you receive your notice of assessment, file an adjustment request in order to claim the disabilty amount. For the adjustment, please follow these instructions (you need to include the T2201of your husband):

You can use the program to make an adjustment on a tax return that has already been filed. On the "Interview setup" page, in the "Other" section, check off "Adjustment request for a tax return that has been filed" and click "Next". "Adjustment request" will appear in the "QuikClik Navigator". Click this option and select the form you need to fill out on the right-hand side of the page. You can also either contact the CRA or Revenu Quebec to order the form that you will fill out and resubmit by mail or visit "My Account" at the CRA website (www.cra-arc.gc.ca/myaccount/) to complete the T1-ADJ Adjustment Request form online. If you are using the program, you will have to print out and mail the completed T1-ADJ plus copies of any relevant documents. You cannot transmit a T1-ADJ via NETFILE. The CRA will send you a new Notice of assessment after they have processed the adjustment.

Thanks for the reply. That's exactly what I want to do, but UFile would not let me. When I click Result at the end, it asks me to fix the error on line 316 because I have to make a selection under "Does CRA already have an approved T2201 form registered in teh account of your spouse or common-law partner?" It keeps asking me to fix it when I select "No", and when I select "Yes", I cannot file my return electronically because my CRA account is not set up to receive transfer amount from my spouse.

UFile automacially transfers the disability amount. How can I do it so it would not transfer to my account?
