Why was I assigned CNIL income and expenses when I don't have any known income or expenses from my investments?

Recommended Posts

When I started my 2017 tax return, I noticed that page T936 - Cumulative Net Investment Losses automatically contained values for the following lines:

"Total federal CNIL expenses at the end of 2016" and "Total federal CNIL income at the end of 2016."

I'm confused as to why and how there are values in these boxes considering that I don't have investments that generate income or expenses.  I only use a TFSA and an RRSP for my investments, so I don't have income or expenses from them.  I've read all the information I can find online with regard to CNILs, but none of it seems to apply to my very simple investment situation.  Could someone offer clarification?
