Bonus contributions to RRSP

Recommended Posts

Are employer bonuses paid to an RRSP eligible for a tax refund?

I am slated to receive a bonus and have the option to transfer the full amount to my RRSP.

If i don't do this the total amount will get taxed and I will receive roughly half in a lump sum payment.

my question is, if I transfer all of it into an RRSP, will i still get a tax refund when I file my taxes next year.

my thinking is no, but I am not sure.

for example

base salary = 100K, bonus = 20K

total income would be 120, taxable income would be (120K - 20K) = 100K

since I din't pay any taxes on this bonus, I would not get a tax refund. I hope I am wrong, but could someone clarify?
