It's great and easy to use. I finished my tax return with SimpleTax but didn't submit yet. I already paid for Ufile, so I'm waiting for the fix. Maybe next year I'll just use SimpleTax because it works really well .2 points

Unused RRSP contributions previously reported and available to deduct for 2020
Goozman and one other reacted to TheTaxSmith for a topic
Hello Goozman. Look at your last NOA for the RRSP area. You will see an Eligible RRSP amount as well as an Unused amount. The Available amount is the difference between those two. If you can access your file online at CRA you will be able to trace back over the years your RRSP contributions and deductions. Reconcile that report with your tax returns to determine what year the Unused amount started. The software will claim your current year contributions plus the unused amount and will deduct an amount up to your current eligible amount. Make sure you have entered the Unused amount to your data2 points -
Ufile using Internet Explorer for Auto-fill
frankcph reacted to Jean Patry for a topic
So every time I try to auto-fill, it goes to internet explorer which for some reason doesn't work. my computer is up to date and no updates pending. If I use the same site using any other browser, it works fine. I'm getting frustrated and about to call them to refund me my purchase. Who still uses an old outdated browser anymore? Is there a way to fix this?1 point -
Home office expenses - Calculation mismatch in Ufile
VMMF reacted to office-sun for a topic
I used the Calculator in CRA website to estimate my home office expenses, and was advised to enter the recommended amount in line 12 of the T777S form and line 5 on the T777S form, which will also go on line 22900 Question: I can not find any of these lines a in ufile online filing "home office expense" interview session? Should we expect an update on this? Other online tax softwares provides this lines as stated. See the summary of the calculator Print and keep this record using the print preview button below. You will need the amounts below when filling out the T777S fo1 point -
Working at Home Due to COVID-19 - Temporary flat rate method
Luis Estrada reacted to TheTaxSmith for a topic
Hi Luis Estrada. Usually completion of the data areas on the Federal T777S would populate the Quebec TP-59.S-V form. After completing the Ufile data area for the T777S switch over to view your return and the Quebec form should show up. Scroll down the list on the left when viewing the return and locate the form you are looking for.1 point -

Home office expenses - Calculation mismatch in Ufile
office-sun reacted to VMMF for a topic
To me UFile " (%) of home being used for personal purposes" is the opposite to CRA "% of your home used as a work space and for employment purposes". If I use a dedicated room of my house to work and that room represents 10% of the total space of the house. I put 90% on Ufile. However I'm still not getting the exact amount that I see on CRA calculator, but I'm much closer1 point -
Detailed Home Office Expenses is not calculating correctly
VMMF reacted to HeatherStronge for a topic
I'm using the detailed method for home office expenses and it's not calculating correctly. When I use the manual form from CRA my amount for line 22900 comes out around $1000. When I plunk the numbers into the appropriate uFile pages the amount it's calculating for line 22900 is showing more than $16,000. This is impossible. I tried the free version of TurboTax just to compare and it calculates correctly - comes out the same as the manual CRA form. I've logged a support ticket with UFile but have heard nothing back. BEWARE if you are using the detailed method for home office expenses as1 point -
I’m a bit confused . I went online and used the calculator for home expenses . I want to fill out the actual T777s form ( with line numbers) . the interview part has different questions and no line numbers . any help is appreciated .1 point

Home office expenses - Calculation mismatch in Ufile

Attached is the right form for my situation (WTH) - The issue remains that there's no option to complete information obtained from CRA calculator "like" go on line 12 - and filling the fields provided in u.file does not return accurate information.1 point -
I did ! ...I reversed the percentage amount . So if I’m able to claim 30% of my space , I entered 70% for personal use . Then entered the expenses . I verified that the review stage if the right lines were filled out and re adjusted my entries . It worked1 point

Yeah, I tried it yesterday since Ufile didn't deliver as promised and it was super easy. A lot more modern interface too, and easier to access tooltips. And it pulled the info from CRA, no problem. I might just stick with it.1 point

Hello, Version 24.11 of UFile Online is now available. Please try again. Thank you,1 point

1. Give it time because they are selling a product which does not work 2. you can still manually do everything the entire program does so it is unneeded 3. some people pay ahead of time in compliance with the deluge of emails from Ufile which fail to mention you have zero recourse for their faulty software1 point

Same problem. UFile starts IE even though Chrome is my default. I try to switch to Edge under the Settings gear in IE but still get the Oops Error. I double checked default apps and Chrome definitely set as default. Also checked the registry and there is no setting for browser for UFile. As well I checked the UFile config files and they don't have a browser setting. All settings seem to be coded into the UFile exe so this seems like a bug. My only thought is that my previous installations of UFile have set the browser as Internet Explorer and it carries into the latest installation.1 point

Just tried again to download my CRA data, after failing all day yesterday. "Not a valid unsigned short." error still occuring. I hate to say it, but I am going to search for an alternative to ufile and ask for my money back. This is truly unacceptable.1 point

I have same problem and I called CRA rerarding this problem. They said wait until 22nd of Feb. then try, but still nothing worked so far. I think this is UFile problem. Downloading my info from CRA failed.. Error message poped up1 point

Same issue. CRA auto-fill does not work. Getting the following error: "Not a valid unsigned short". Doesn't matter if using IE, Firefox or Chrome.1 point

But is the autofill successful? In my case UFile starts Chrome, my default browser, I log into CRA account successfully, but autofill fails and UFile gives me an error message and suggests generic help. I tried numerous times and made sure that there are documents within my account at CRA (T4, T5, etc)1 point

I have the same problem and the same question. When I use auto-fill, it starts IE, and everything looks good from the CRA website (login successful, etc.), but I get an error back in uFile after IE is done. [I have checked several times to make sure that uFile is up-to-date - and it is every time.] And yes - why is uFile forcing IE anyway? We've moved on from that browser years ago.1 point

Same problem here! UFILE - this is not the time for bugs. You have all year for testing!1 point

Where to claim disability lawyer fee?
LKB reacted to TheTaxSmith for a topic
Good morning LKB. Go back to the Interview setup. Then on the right look for Other topics, then Other deductions and credits. From there select Other deductions for Federal Line 23200. That allows the line entry you need for the deduction. https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/individuals/topics/about-your-tax-return/tax-return/completing-a-tax-return/deductions-credits-expenses/line-23200-other-deductions.html1 point -

Capital Loss in 2020
MP18 reacted to TheTaxSmith for a topic
Hi MP18. You are effectively asking CRA to reassess year 2017 and send you a refund. It will not affect your 2020 return. You need to enter the lower of the the amount of loss incurred for 2020 and your 2017 gains on that schedule for carryback. So if the 2017 gains were more than the 2020 loss then you enter the full 2020 loss for 2017. If however your 2020 loss is greater than your 2017 gains then you enter the actual 2017 gains you claimed in 2017 in the schedule and any balance you will enter in 2018 and so on. You can only claim the lower of the 2020 loss or the actual 2017 gains,1 point -
Principal Residence changed to Investment Property

Hi Bikram1738, You are considered to have disposed the property at the time of the change in use for proceeds equal to its market value (FMV), and to have reacquired the property immediately thereafter at a cost equal to its market value. Transitioning a Dependant to their own Return when no longer a Dependant
Boatnut13 reacted to defrederick for a topic
Greetings, I'm resurrecting an old thread from three years ago that still hasn't been addressed. What's the best way to transition dependants who have left home? Is there a carry-forward summary sheet I can use when I have to manually create a new return using all of my son's previous tax information? An option to create a new independent return when removing a dependant would be sweet and is actually expected from even semi-sophisticated software. I can't believe this was asked for three years ago and there's nary a hint of this functionality in your software. It's almost as if UFile ass1 point -

How to enter recapture of Capital Cost Allowance
hetrees reacted to TheTaxSmith for a topic
I should have mentioned that the data entry for the building disposition for "Proceeds" should be only the building portion of the disposition price. Lets say 80% of the $500,000, so enter $400,000. Then for "ACB of the disposition" enter $240,000. That will give you the gain for the building. Now for the land portion you will need to scroll down the list in the CCA area for the income/rental statement and add a category for the land. Once that schedule is in place (if not already done) complete it for the land disposition portion and the land ACB portion, and ask to calculate the gain as1 point -

Transitioning a Dependant to their own Return when no longer a Dependant
Boatnut13 reacted to Very Frustrated for a topic
Just learned one more great feature about UFile: So as I mentioned above, I've had to create a completely separate account for my adult daughter. And since there is no way to automatically transfer (or even export/import) the tax data from her old account to her new one, I'm having to manually enter it. So I've opened both accounts in separate browser windows so I can copy it while viewing the old and new accounts side-by-side, and guess what? UFile can't handle it. If I have two accounts open simultaneously in different browsers, it gives me an error message that says "Attempted to perfor1 point -
