  1. My partner and I (no children) always filed as single. This year we are filing together since we live together now. For fun I still did our taxes separate and it had him owing $41.79 and me $832.17. Then when I did them together it has him getting back $333.78 and me owing $1541.75. Why such a huge difference? Also if I use the "Net income only" option would that change the numbers? If yes, under basic information it asks a few questions about income.....do I just enter the Federal income or do I also have to include Quebec income from 2023 and 2022 plus tax on split income adjusted income and all the rest of the questions. Does "net income only" change anything anyways? Note I noticed that when we did our taxes together ufile added $2000 to my salary (pension income). He is retired and I am still working.
  2. I am using ufile to do a the taxes for a friend who is a radiology technician at a hospital. Every year she has to pay union professional dues ($505.25) to the order of technologists and medical imaging. In ufile it is asking me if I wish to claim the GST/HST rebate GST-370 and for Quebec QST rebate VD-358. What is this and should I say yes or no? If yes, next question is amount that is eligible...do I put the tax amount GST is $20 and QST is $39.90? Thanks.
  3. I just want to make sure that I am entering the information correctly. We are not paying it back to RRSP but adding it to income instead. I entered $1666 in the RL-10 we received and in the HBP section. Do I need to enter any other information in RRSP contributions even though we are not paying it back to them? The reason I am asking is because of this message in ufile Note: You must also enter an RRSP contribution (in the left side menu under RRSP contributions, limits of an equal of greater amount. On the page entitled "Home Buyers' Plan (HBP)", on the line for "RRSP home buyers' plan repayable balance at start of 2021", $21668.00 HBP amount that should be repaid in 2021 (on HBP statement from CRA), $1666.00 Contributions designated as your 2021 HBP repayment". For this last section I put zero since I am not paying anything back to RRSP. We want to add it as income. Is this correct or should I do something else?
