Tax returns. Currently I am a volunteer with the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program in Centre Wellington Ontario.
  1. I am doing a Quebec tax return. The donations I entered are shown in the Quebec Schedule V but no amount is being included in the return on line 395. Instead the full amount of the donations is being carried forward. The return has an amount owing of $33.02 which I thought should be $0 if some of the donations were used.
  2. Thank you for the excellent details.
  3. Reg, I have the same issue. How did you solve it?
  4. My wife and I are retirees on a fixed income that changes very little from year to year. We had a bathtub-to-walkin shower renovation done in 2023. As my wife is eligible for the DTC the renovation is being claimed on F31285 and as a medical expense. When I claim the amount on our 2023 return our refund is approximately $2500 less than it would have been had we done the work in 2022 and claimed it on that return. Do you know if there have been changes to the HATC for 2023 that would have lowered our credit?
  5. Until last year (2022 tax year) the home accessibility tax credit was claimed under other deductions. Can this credit still be claimed? If so, how? In the 2023 return it has been replaced by a multignerational home renovation tax credit.
  6. I complete individual annual tax returns for my sister who is under 60 years old and my brother who is over 70 years old. They both live in Quebec. My brother has been approved for the DTC but does not require the full amount so I would like to transfer it to my sister who has been approved by the CRA to have this transfer. When I create a return with my sister as family head and my brother as an independant my brother's return does not show the Quebec Senior Home Support page where he normally claims related costs. How do I do this in Ufile?
  7. Thank you very much for your quick response. I have been using netfile for all the returns I do for many years without any issue. When I recently read the CRA website about netfile vs efile it sounded like I should be using efile for all returns except my own. I appreciate you clarifying this for me.
  8. Each year I use my Ufile for Windows 12 to complete returns for family and friends. I have always used netfile for each of those returns. Is that OK or should I be using Efile for returns other than my own?
