  1. Hello,

Unfortunately UFile does not support the NR4 directly.
Other slips need to be used according to the Income code shown in Box 14 of the NR4 slip.

As shown in the reverse of the slip, the income code 61 in Box 14 corresponds to "Arm's length interest payments".

     Use a T5 page.
I understand that Boxes 12 and 15 of your NR4 are empty.
Enter the amount shown in Box 16 of your NR4 in Box 13 of the T5.

  2. Good day, Megan,

    1) receive CPP  back
A person must be at least 18 years old to start contributing to CPP.
A 16 year old cannot receive CPP back as the person is not eligibe to contribute to CPP in the first place.

    2) RRSP
There is no minimum age for opening an RRSP.
However a person must receive employment or business income to earn contribution room.
In order to make contributions to an RRSP account, a minor needs to have earned income the previous year and filed an income tax return with the CRA.
The contribution room available for the next year will be shown in the year's Notice of Assessment.

  3. Good day Helen,

You can claim the insurance premium you paid yourself as medical expense, federal (and Quebec if applicable).

Verify your T4 slip (and RL-1 if applicable).
There might be a Box 85 (RL-1, Box 235) with the premium you paid.
If yes, enter the amount in your T4 (or T4/RL-1) page.
     - Box 85 is located at the bottom of the page
     - UFile will then use the amount as Medical expense

If no, enter the amount in the Medical expenses page.

  4. Good day Chris,

As you suspect, using Autofill for both federal and provincial often leads to duplication.
The software is unable to do a match when the issuer name is not the same on both sides.

    Now about your situation.
    Your RL-1  has amounts in,
     - Boxes B and B-1
     - Boxes G and G-2
This indicates that you worked, probably for the same employer,
     - in Quebec (B and G are related to QPP contributions)
     - outside of Quebec (B-1 and G-2 are related to CPP contributions)
    You then would have,
     - one T4 slip with a code in Box 10 other than QC
     - one T4 slip with a QC code in Box 10 and a RL-1

    Please confirm.

  5. Hello Raf,

For members of the RCMP  and of the military residing in Quebec,
     - their T4 shows an amount in Box 16
     - their RL-1 shows amounts in Boxes B-1 and G-2 only.
In UFile they use a T4 and RL-1 income earned in Quebec with CPP contributions page.

Note that in your federal return 45% of the federal income tax withheld in Ontario is transferred to your Quebec return.
     - federal, page 8, line 43800
     - Québec, page 4, line 454

    45% is the maximum transferrable.
Should you wish to transfer a lesser amount, look for Instalments and tax transfer in the Interview setup

  6. Good day Raf,

I understand that while in Ontario you were contributing to CPP and while in Quebec you contributed to QPP.
You need two (2) Employment pages to take care of your situation.

    1) a T4 income earned outside Quebec page
Use that page to enter the data from your T4 Ontario (Box 10 shows ON)

    2) a T4 and RL-1 income earned in Quebec with QPP contributions page
Use that page to enter the data from your T4 Quebec (Box 10 shows QC) and your RL-1

Forget about Boxes B-1 and G-2 of the RL-1.
They should not be there as they are required only for someone who is contributing to CPP while employed in Quebec.
This is typically the case for members of the RCMP and of the military who are stationned in Quebec.

You will see in your Return package Form RC381 that shows the calculations for your CPP and QPP contributions.

  7. Good day,

When dealing with a T5008 slip, either manually from a paper document or through the use of CRA Auto-fill,
     - and Box 13 shows a Foreign currency code
all amounts in the T5008 are expressed in that currency.
They must be left as is, i.e. without any conversion.

What is only required then is to enter the Exchange rates.
UFile then does the conversion in CAD correctly when calculating the return.
(Unfortunately I cannot use images, this system limits their total size to 268 Bytes ?????)

    Test 1
     - Proceeds = 60,000
     - Exchange rate - 1.40
     - Cost = 50,000
     - Exchange rate - 1.20

     - Calculated proceeds in CAD = 84,000
     - Calculated cost in CAD = 60,000
     - Gain in Schedule 3 = 24,000

    Note 1
When an Exchange rate field is left blank, UFile uses a value of 1.000 for the conversion.

    Test 2
     - Proceeds = 60,000
     - Exchange rate - blank
     - Cost = 50,000
     - Exchange rate - blank

     - Calculated proceeds in CAD = 60,000
     - Calculated cost in CAD = 50,000
     - Gain in Schedule 3 = 10,000

  8. Hello SEL,

I understand your situation as being the following,
     - resident in Quebec
     - working in Ontario
    You have received,
     - a T4 Ontario
     - a RL-1 with Boxes A and J

The RL-1 relates to your employer's provided health insurance which is a taxable benefit in Quebec.
The amount of Box J is eligible as Medical expense and treated as such by the program.

    Data entry

    1) the T4 Ontario
Use a T4 income earned outside Quebec

    2) the RL-1
Use a T4 and RL-1 income earned in Quebec with QPP contributions
(For some stupid reason I can no longer paste an image of the page)
All boxes blank, except as follows
     - Employer's name - your employer
     - Box A - as on the RL-1
     - Box 56 - 0.00
     - Exempt (CPP/QPP, EI, PPIP) - exempt CPP/QPP (rare)
     - Box J - as on the RL-1

    Review
Ignore any Warning pertaining to past employment

  9. Good day CatsRelax,

I assume that you are defined as a non-resident in your UFile 2022 file,
     - in your Identification page
     - with a Non-resident page

In order to trigger the Quebec return,
     - select Quebec as the Province of residence on December 31, 2022

For the Quebec prescription drug insurance plan,
select 4 - Exceptions all year, Other - living outside Quebec all year

    Note
There is a new field in the CRA questions page.
Are you a Canadian resident, a factual resident, or a non-resident?
    Select "Non-resident".

There is a bug with that field as the content does not stay in the file.
     - you save your file
     - when you open it again, the field is empty
     - you need to make the selection again

However the T1 return is generated correctly.

  10. Good day Okynnor

Forget about using the T1-ADJ provided within UFile.

You have two (2) options for making the change.

    1) Use the CRA T1-ADJ
    T1-ADJ T1 Adjustment Request - Canada.ca

In the form you can enter any line you wish to adjust

    2) Use the ReFILE function within UFile 2021
I assume the 2021 file was filed successfully.

  11. Well, then the only solution is to file a paper return for your daughter.

    1) Change the NetFile page

    image.png.b30061a194e846d754131d49308b3f66.png

    2) Look in the Tax Return
    Assembly instructions are now present.

    image.png.e2670579e177b385e1cacb4f394161dd.png

    3) Print the Federal return

    image.png.b25710d1887d0580cc50fcb8b8fc94ce.png

The return will probably contain only the following pages:

    image.png.d8e52bd95e08c0a5d293f39dfb561a47.png

Data pertaining to Ontario is shown in page T1-KFS under Provincial and territorial forms.

    4) Finalize

Your daughter signs on Page 3.
    Include the T4 slip.

Use the link provided in the Assembly instructions to find where to mail the return.
