Jie Jie
Hi ufile fellow users: Can anyone can help me on this matter? I am employed (very low income) while my husband is working (with approved T2201). By searching online, I noticed that a caregiver amount can be claimed by a family member. However, I am not able to figure out how to claim this amount? Should I enter it from my tax return, or my husband's? We are using ufile and fill combined tax return. Thanks Jie
Nawal
Hi @Jie Jie, To claim this amount, you must indicate that your spouse has a disability. To do so, follow this procedure: 1. In your spouse's file, in the "Left-side menu on the Interview tab" select the heading "Medical, disability, caregiver". 2. On the page that appears on the right side, click on the plus sign "+" icon located to the right of the line "Infirmity and Disability amounts claim for yourself (line 31600)". 3. On the page entitled "Infirmity and disability", go to line "Does your disability provide entitlement to the Canada caregiver amount?" In the menu on the right, select the answer that suits you. Schedule 5 will be produced by the program and the amount will be reported on line 30425 of your federal return.
RAP
If net income of spouse with disability is higher than caregiver wife, is wife still eligible for caregiver credit? Does the amount of Net Income (either spouse) impact the ability of wife to collect caregiver credit?
