thankyou
Hello I am trying to get the Canada care giver tax credit for my daughter 18 years or older for the years 2017 2018 2019 and 2020 I do not have an spouse /common law partner I am single My question is in what exact line(s) of schedule 5 should I claim the tax credit My understanding is that for the years 2017 This should be claimed in line Line 307 – Canada caregiver amount for other infirm dependants age 18 or older not Line 304 – Canada caregiver amount for spouse or common-law partner, or your eligible dependant age 18 or older ------ And that lines Line 303 – Spouse or common-law partner amount Line 303 – Spouse or common-law partner amount And line Line 305 – Amount for an eligible dependant Should not be modified Same for the year 2018 ----- For the year 2019 This should be claimed in line Line 30450 – Canada caregiver amount for other infirm dependants age 18 or older not Line 30400 – Amount for an eligible dependant Line 30425 – Canada caregiver amount for spouse or common-law partner, or your eligible dependant age 18 or older And that Line 30300 – Spouse or common-law partner amount Should not be modified I would really appreciate some input as even the cra is giving me contradicting advice regarding this My income should not have an impact on how this form is filled, am I right Also for this to be claimed in the year 2020 the one thing that has to be done is to add a schedule 5 am I correct
thankyou
are you sure 2017-2018 it clearly states in line 304 Complete this calculation only if you entered $2,150 on line 5109 or line 5110 of this schedule for a person whose net income is between $6,902 and $23,046. and line 5110 is part of Line 303 – Spouse or common-law partner amount , which is not applicable to me since i dont have an spouse 2019-2020 line 30450 You can claim an amount for each dependent who meets all the following conditions. They: • were dependent on you because of an impairment in physical or mental functions • were 18 years of age or older • were your or your spouse’s or common-law partner’s child whereas the other lines have to do with partner /spouse line 30300 30400 30425 all mentioned here If you can claim an amount for your spouse or common-law partner on line 30300 of your return or for an eligible dependant 18 years of age or older on line 30400 of your return, you may be able to claim an amount on line 30425 of your return. However, you must first claim the amount of $2,273 in calculating either the amount on line 30300 or the amount on line 30400, whichever applies.
