Nawal
Hi @S Thomas, Only residents of Newfoundland and Labrador are eligible for this credit. To claim this credit on line 58315 or line 58316 of Form NL428, please follow these steps: 1. You must have completed the federal procedure to enter your request. 2. On the "Left side menu on the Interview tab", select the "T4 and employment income" section; 3. On the screen to your right, go to the second group, entitled "Others", choose the option "Amount for volunteer firefighters and amount for search and rescue volunteers" and click on the plus sign "+ "located on your right; 4. On the page that appears, go to the line "Select the type of emergency service volunteers" and in the drop-down menu to your right, choose the option that corresponds to your situation; 5. On the line "Indicate how you wish to treat the amount for volunteer firefighters and amounts for search and rescue volunteers" at the federal level, choose the option that applies to your situation. The program will implicitly indicate "Let OptiMax decide" and the latter will perform the calculations required to minimize the tax payable; 6. In addition, you can choose the "Request amount" option from the drop-down menu. 7. However, if you choose the "Do not claim amount" option in the drop-down menu, the program will not increase your income by the amount of the exemption in box 87 of the T4 slip and will not grant the credit If you were a volunteer firefighter and a search and rescue volunteer, you cannot claim both amounts. The amount for volunteer firefighters (MPV) will be entered on line 31220 of federal Step 5 and on line 58315 of form NL428. The amount for Search and Rescue Volunteers (MVRS) will be entered on line 31240 of Federal Step 5 and on line 58316 of Form NL428.
