Siward44 Posted March 26, 2023 Report Posted March 26, 2023 Hi Ufile, I have uncle who passed away during the summer of 2022. I am filing his final tax return on his behalf. My uncle resided in a long-term care home for 7 months of 2022. The receipt provided by the care home indicated that the entire attendant care fee can be filed under "medical expenses for income tax purposes". Normally, my uncle's tax return does not yield any return so medical expenses do not matter. However, this year there is Ontario Seniors Care at Home Tax Credit. I don't know if my uncle is eligible Ontario Seniors Care at Home Tax Credit since it is his final tax return. Perhaps it should be pro-rated. Should I leave medical expenses blank or put in a value and apply for the Ontario Seniors Care at Home Tax Credit now that he has passed away? I am a little confused here. Or should I apply for it anyways, and CRA would know what to do with it given that I have indicated that he is passed away on the return. Quote
