  1. Can someone explain why in the section "DECEASED TAXPAYER", the option "Do you file optional returns for RIGHTS and THINGS, for partner or........yes/no" is missing . Also missing is the option " information from optional returns........ Last year I did a return for a deceased relative and these options were available . Thanks !
  2. My mom passed away in Dec 2023. She was my dependent for past 10 years. I am filling her FINAL return but will also like to file a rights and things return for some OAS / GIS and QPP income for her final month. I remember seeing a section in the deceased section interview that asked if you are filling a RIGHTS AND THINGS return but it doesn't seem to be there this year. Can anyone help me here. Thanks
  3. I am completing a FINAL RETURN for a deceased person and am also doing a separate return for RIGHTS and THINGS , which I will complete by hand . I have two questions : 1. in the section that asks what type of return for year of death ..... what is DECEASED TAXPAYER NEXT YEAR (MEMO) mean ? 2.where do you enter "yes" to the question "Did you file optional returns ..... (yes/no) ; in the Final return or the optional return ? Thank you
  4. Can you use Ufile to do a Rights and Things return ? In my case, the person died Dec. 1 2022, and had only OAS and QPP paid at the end of the month. Since there is only these two payments there is no tax payable on this. Putting it in the final return would mean paying tax on $1937 of additional income... I tried the Federal return and it seemed to do a correct return, claiming only the Basic Amount and Age amount in full resulting in zero tax payable....... However, on the Quebec return the program used the basic amount in full and the age amount in full ... the latter can be split between the Final return and the separate return, provided that the total of the amounts claimed is not greater than the amount that could be claimed if all the deceased person's income for the year of death were being reported in a single income tax return. So obviously, the return is erroneous. Does that mean I have to file my return by pen and paper to account for this ? Thanks
  5. When you want to file a "rights and things" return for a deceased person how do you go about it, do you open another tax return for the deceased ,after doing the FINAL RETURN, and enter the OAS and CCP or QPP amounts that are received at the end of the month the person passed. . how do you split the non-refundable tax credits such as the Age Amount , disability amount etc. For my case the deceased would only have one month (DECEMBER) of income to declare in the "Rights and Things" and thus would only need the Basic Amount to get zero tax owed......
