  1. Hello Marsha

UFile will never delete the data (tax year files) in UFile ONLINE.  If you changed your username, on the account, they should still appear.  If you created a new username, on the account, then they will remain with the previous username and only new data (tax year files) will be added.

Please contact UFile Support so we may review the file confidentially. Please include above note.

  4. Hello acastruc,

    RE : Rejected Error 15 / error code 15 / result 15

The CRA has locked your account due to too many failed attempts to NetFile (5xTimes maximum). You should contact the CRA to **unlock the account ie specifically the transmission to Netfile ** and then wait at least 12 hours to NetFile.

Please note there is a difference between CRA myaccount and the CRA Netfiling account and not all CRA agents are aware of this.

Unfortunately there is nothing that we can do.

Of note, you can also print and mail the tax return.

    CRA Tel. : 1-800-267-6999

If the above REFile was not successful then use a T1 - ADJ.

How to request an adjustment (reassessment) to a tax return

You can use the program to make an adjustment to a tax return that has already been filed. Make sure you have received your notice of assessment before asking for changes to your return.

NOTE: We recommend that you keep your previously filed tax return and prepare separately an amended tax return based on the changes you make. Print this amended tax return and compare it with your original tax return. Take note of the line numbers that are affected, as you will need them when completing your adjustment request.

To do so, please follow these steps:

1- In the "Left-side menu on the Interview tab", click on "Interview setup".

2- On the page that appears to the right, scroll down to the "Other topics" section, check the box for "Adjustment request for a tax return that has been filed" and click "Next" at the bottom of the page.

3- Return to the "Left-side menu on the Interview tab", select "Adjustment request" at the bottom of the list and, on the right-hand side of the screen, click on the plus "+" symbol to the right of the form you need, either "T1-ADJ adjust a federal tax return" or for Quebec residents "TP-1.R adjust a Quebec tax return".

4- Select the "Taxation year" you want to correct from the drop-down menu to your right, and then enter the relevant information.

5- For the question "Line number of the jacket regarding the adjustment", choose the one that applies from the drop-down menu. Then, on the next two lines, enter respectively the amount that was claimed on the original tax return, followed by the revised amount to be claimed on the amended tax return.

6- If you have multiple lines to correct, click on "+ Add another" to add additional lines.

7- If you have additional information or explanations, fill out the bottom section. If needed, attach a separate sheet with your adjustment request by recording the necessary information. If applicable, provide also the corresponding line number for the credit.

8- For Québec residents who wish to amend both their federal and Québec returns, in the "Left-side menu on the Interview tab", click again on "Adjustment request" at the bottom of the list and repeat the procedure.

9- Once you have completed your adjustment request(s), click on the fourth tab "Tax Return".

10- Double check to make sure the adjustment request(s) are completed correctly. Then, click on the "Print" icon, choose the option "Selected pages" and on the list to the right, select the pages to print, i.e. the forms T1-ADJ (federal) and/or TP-1.R (Quebec). To select multiple pages, press and hold the "Ctrl" key on your keyboard when clicking the pages to print from the list. Finally, click on the button "Start printing".

Please note that you cannot submit an adjustment request electronically via NETFILE. You must print and mail the T1-ADJ and/or the TP-1.R. Be sure to sign your request(s) and provide all supporting documents.

Also, please make sure to include a telephone number where the CRA and/or Revenu Quebec may contact you during the day.

The CRA will send you a Notice of Reassessment once your adjustment request has been processed. Revenu Québec will do the same once they processed your TP-1.R form.

If you wish, you can also amend your tax return online by using "My Account" on the CRA website.

  10. Hello FabioFar,

Capital Loss Carry Back / T1A
If you incurred net capital losses in the current year, you can carry back these losses and apply them to the capital gains of the past THREE years.

    1. In the "Left-side menu on the interview  tab", select "Interview setup".

    2. On the right-hand side of the screen, go to the "Investment income and expenses" group, check the Box "Capital gains (or losses) and capital gain history", then go to the "Carryforward amounts and prior year information" group, check the Box for "Losses of prior years, carrybacks" and click on "Next" at the bottom of the screen.

    3. Return to the "Left-side menu on the Interview tab" and select "Capital Gains (or losses) & ABIL" on the right-hand page, choose the option that suits you and enter your capital gains or capital losses.
    4. Return once again to the "Left-side menu on the Interview tab" and select "Losses of prior years and carrybacks".

    5. On the screen to the right, scroll down to "Loss carryback" group, and click on the plus "+" icon to the right of the line "T1A - Request for loss carryback (loss which occurred in 2023)".

    1.    In the page that appears entitled "T1A - Request for current year loss carryback" choose the section that corresponds to your situation and select the year or years for which you want to apply your losses, starting with the loss from the earliest year to carry-back years.
    2.    NOTE : For Stock / Share loss must include the inclusion rate of 50%

The program will generate Federal form T1A as well as Quebec form TP- 1012.A.

Quebec residents will have to print form TP- 1012.A, sign it and mail SEPARATELY from other documents, because it cannot be netfiled, whereas the Federal T1A can be sent via NETFILE.

The T1A does not affect the current year's tax return. The CRA and Revenu Québec will reassess the corresponding year's tax returns based on the information in the T1A or TP-1012. They will issue you a report later.

For more information on this topic, please see the following links

    https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/individuals/topics/about-your-tax-return/tax-return/completing-a-tax-return/personal-income/line-127-capital-gains/capital-losses-deductions.html

    Shares loss -10,000 / 2 (due to 50% inclusion rate) = 5,000

  12. Hello Shawn Taylor,

CVITP CRA - Messages 180,181 from EFILE CRA / Error code 181

During the 2022 taxation year CRA introduced Efile Code 181. It includes Code 181 and Codes 181-01 to 181-07.
For the tax year 2022, EFILE Service has added new messages: 181, 181-01, 181-02, 181-03, 181-04, 181-05, 181-06, 181-07 to confirm that the tax return has been successfully received and processed by the CRA.

These new codes also impacted prior years. The CRA has been contacted about removing "rejected" from the message 181, for prior year returns.  Unfortunately, we can not correct this on our side (in UFile) and the CVITP administration is aware of the issue.
