Paulo Silveira
Hi, I'm a self-employed person and I paid prescription drug insurance, mandatory in Quebec (I have a tax slips for it) Can I claim it as insurance premium? Thank you
Curmudgeon
The CRA says Premiums paid to private health services plans including medical, dental, and hospitalization plans. They can be claimed as a medical expense, as long as 90% or more of the premiums paid under the plan are for eligible medical expenses. Perscription drugs are a medical expense so the premiums are a medical expense. https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/individuals/topics/about-your-tax-return/tax-return/completing-a-tax-return/deductions-credits-expenses/lines-33099-33199-eligible-medical-expenses-you-claim-on-your-tax-return/details-medical-expenses.html Edited April 10, 2021 by Curmudgeon Whoops, ignore this. I see you are asking about a business deduction.
