ttplaya
I was using UFile Online for the 2021 tax year, but now want to use UFile Desktop for the 2022 tax year. Is there a way I can export a .u21 file from the Online data, so that I can use that to start my 2022 file on the Desktop?
Geo123
Hello ttplaya, There is no way to export UFile ONLINE into UFile Windows (desktop) only from UFile Windows to UFile ONLINE (for the ID information and carry forwards)
Corey L
It would be nice in future versions to fix this.

I just purchased & installed UFile 2022 for Windows on my PC on the understanding that I'd be able to import my 2021 UFile ONLINE files into UFile for Windows. If I can't do this then the Windows app is useless to me - I need to file 2022 returns for 5 family members and there's no way I'm going to manually enter their carryforwards. Please let me know how I can get a refund of my purchase price.

ttplaya
Hi Geo123, Is there any chance the export feature would make it into UFile Online before the tax deadline this season?

Sisters
I purchased UFile for desktop but would like to use UFILE online - can I use the files to upload to UFile online? Thank you
Geo123
Hello Sisters, The ability to import the previous year's tax file prepared with UFile for Windows into UFile ONLINE is possible (from 2016). Prior years would have to be entered manually. **Can not import current year file directly is Carry Forward of prior year i.e is not actually import of current year but of *prior year information and the Carry Forward ** **You can switch from UFile desktop to UFile Online but not vice versa.** NOTE: You must pay for each prior year UFile ONLINE as it is a completely different system from UFile windows. If you do not already have a UFile ONLINE account, proceed as follows (otherwise proceed to step 10): 1. Go to the following web page:https://www.ufile.ca/ 2. Click on the "Start your return ONLINE FOR FREE" button and click "Create New Account". 3. Complete the form and be sure to check the box "I agree with the Terms and Conditions of the Licence agreement". 4. Click on the "Create my account" button. 5. Complete "Step 2 - Password reset options" as desired, then click "Next". 6. In "Step 3 - Finish", at the bottom of the page, print the information, than click the button "Start" from the bottom of the page. 7. Click "Go!". 8. The tax year will appear in the "Tax years list". Click "LAUNCH!" 9. Proceed to step 13 below. =========================================== However, if you already have a UFile ONLINE account, proceed as follows: 10. Go to the following web page:https://www.ufile.ca/ 11. Log in to your account; 12. Click on "Start" tab located in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. 13. Choose the option "Import an existing file" and continue with step 14 below. NOTE: Any information entered prior to conversion will be overwritten and replaced with the data carried forward from your previous year's file. If you have not entered any current year data or have no concerns about your data being overwritten, then you may proceed. If you have already prepared your return, and possibly paid for it, please do not proceed as both the data entered and the payment will be lost. Furthermore, please be aware that the conversion cannot be reversed. =========================================== 14. Click the "Browse" button, locate your 2021UFile for Windows tax file (*.u21), and click the "Open" button. NOTE: It is very important that you browse to locate your file. This will ensure that both the name and location of the file are correct. You cannot just enter the name of the file. The program also needs to know where the file is located on your computer. By browsing, you will ensure that this information is correct. 15. If your UFile for Windows file is protected by a password, enter your password in the space provided. 16. Click the "Submit" button. 17. The file carried forward will open in UFile ONLINE.
