Alex44
Hi I am adding some hotels to the staycation section of Ufile but noticed they are asking for a HST number. How do I find this?? I stayed in five hotels in 2022, do I really need to call each one to find this out. Is there no easier option?
Geo123
Hello Alex44, ON479 - Ontario staycation tax credit The GST / HST number is a required field for the Ontario Staycation credit as per the CRA. The accommodation expenses must have been paid by you, your spouse or common-law partner, or your eligible child, as set out on a detailed receipt provided by a supplier registered for the Goods and Services Tax (GST)/Harmonized Sales Tax (HST).https://www.ontario.ca/page/ontario-staycation-tax-credit#section-
Alex44
Its a required field but I contacted my Airbnb host and they mentioned they don't deal with this. So what do I do in a situation like that?
Geo123
Helo Alex44, You should contact either AirbnB or the CRA : 1-800-959-8281 for inquiries related to individuals. Telephone numbers – Canada Revenue Agency / CRA wait times: https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/corporate/contact-information/telephone-numbers.html
BLSM
Alex, you shouldn't need to call anyone. Just look on your bill. If they charged the tax, they need to include their tax number on the invoice. Don't say you don't have the bills - they are needed to claim the credit. JAZZ
When you go on the Ontario website - you need to note only the GST/HST I.e. the amount of any GST/HST paid so I am wondering if UFile has an error in this?
JAZZ
Website looks to be misleading. I just spoke with. CRA and yup - need the number no reply needed thanks
Wilyums
The B&B we stayed at said that because they are small enough (<$30,000 over 4 quarters according to the CRA website) they did not register for GST/HST number. Accordingly, they do not charge HST and do not have an HST number (just a registered business number). https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/businesses/topics/gst-hst-businesses/when-register-charge.html Can we make the claim and Netfile? Geo123
Hello Wilyums, Please try submitting without the GST/HST number, CRA may have updated the requirement that this is an obligatory field.

GinaF
I have some of the HST numbers for my stays, not all list HST # on receipts. For those where I do have number the system isn't accepting the format as they appear including an Ontario campground. One place was booked through Hotwire and it has a CST number, again the system won't accept the number. Is this a problem number issue or Ufile? Thanks for your help
Wayv
trying to claim staycation credit, on form ON479 I am asked for HST # which I got from my receipt. Software will not accept this #. Says it is the wrong format, but it is # right from my receipt and same format as other receipts from other companies, One letter(Upper case) followed by nine numerical digits. What is wrong here? Geo123
Hello Wayv, The HST number is a required field for the Ontario Staycation credit as per the CRA and must include a valid GST/HST number.(123456789RT0001)
