Netfile Access Code Error

Hi,

I'm trying to netfile my wife's return but am getting the following error message:

"The CRA was unable to accept your return, as your NETFILE Access Code did not match our records. Please compare what you have entered with the access shown on your notice of assessment"

We have been using UFile and NETFILE for the past 10 years with no issue. Which page of the interview can I go review and update this information?

Thanks,
Jeff

Hello jefferz,

Your unique Access code can be found on your Notice of Assessment (NOA) for a previous tax year. This eight-character Access code is made up of numbers and letters and is located on the right side of your NOA. The placement and labelling of the Access code differs slightly depending on the version of the NOA you are looking at, but will always be on the right side of the NOA.
On the paper version of your NOA as well as the PDF version in My Account, the Access code is not labelled, but can be found directly underneath the Date issued at the top right of the page. If you are viewing your NOA in My Account or using the Express NOA service in certified tax software, the Access code is found directly under the Notice details box at the top right of the page.
While this Access code is not mandatory, if you do not enter your Access code, you will not be able to use any information from your 2022 tax return when confirming your identity with the Canada Revenue Agency. You will have to rely on other information for authentication purposes.

Hi Geo123,

Thank you for the above reply. However, my question is where can I view and modify the access code that has already been entered into UFile. Without updating it and making it match the NOA, I won't be able to submit the Netfile.

Thanks,
Jeff

I received the same error and on checking my NOA, I HAD entered the correct access code.  I blanked out the access

code that I had previously entered on the Identification page and tried to Netfile again and I was sucessful!!  Whew!!

Hope you were able to Netfile.  I was worried because I had correctly entered my access code

the first time so the error did not make any sense to me.  Apparently, you can submit if you

leave the access code blank!

Hello dougobra

Make sure you are using the latest NAC and not the prior year NAC (which may have been carried forward).  Your unique Access code (8 characters)  can be found on your Notice of Assessment (NOA) for a previous tax year. This eight-character Access code is made up of numbers and letters and is located on the right side of your NOA. The placement and labelling of the Access code differs slightly depending on the version of the NOA you are looking at, but will always be on the right side of the NOA.

If you are viewing your NOA in My Account or using the Express NOA service in certified tax software, the Access code is found directly under the Notice details box at the top right of the page.
OR
Call the CRA 800-959-7383
The NAC is not required to NetFile.  While this Access code is not mandatory, if you do not enter your Access code, you will not be able to use any information from your 2023 tax return when confirming your identity with the Canada Revenue Agency. You will have to rely on other information for authentication purposes.

Hello,

I am filling my taxes for the first time and got this error.

Please wait a few seconds for the file to be accepted and to receive a confirmation number. Should the file not be accepted, then please review, and rectify the error(s) listed and resubmit when ready.

How do I proceed I can't find my Netfile access code? I tried leaving it blank and it doesn't work.

Thank you in advance.

Hi all,

I am in the same situation as Jefferz.

When I finally got thru to them & explained my situation The Agent went berserk on me for trying to file my wife's Return. I explained to them that I had been LOCKed out for attempting to file more than 5 times but she didn't care about that, just that I shouldn't of even been trying to file another persons Return.

There are no Taxes owed or Return requested.? Shortly after I hungup my wife got an email from CRA that they had removed her Email from her file & there would be no more communication.

So what do I do now?

John
