S L
Hi there, Wondering if I am allowed to include the Property Transfer Tax (PTT) in the T1 Moving Expenses line 22? Thanks in advance for any help!
Geo123
Hello S L, Please see the note below as per the CRA. Cost of selling your old home includes the following: advertising notary or legal fees < ---- SEE BELOW * real estate commission mortgage penalty when the mortgage is paid off before maturity *Note The cost of buying your new home includes legal or notary fees you paid to buy your new home, as well as any taxes paid (other than GST/HST) for the transfer or registration of title to the new home. https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/individuals/topics/about-your-tax-return/tax-return/completing-a-tax-return/deductions-credits-expenses/line-21900-moving-expenses/line-21900-expenses-you-deduct.html
S L
Thanks Geo123 I saw that direction from the CRA already (did some sleuthing before I sent in this help request) but it does not clear up my question because I am not clear on whether the Property Transfer Tax is considered a "tax paid for the transfer or registration of a new home."
