My wife and I are retirees on a fixed income that changes very little from year to year. We had a bathtub-to-walkin shower renovation done in 2023. As my wife is eligible for the DTC the renovation is being claimed on F31285 and as a medical expense. When I claim the amount on our 2023 return our refund is approximately $2500 less than it would have been had we done the work in 2022 and claimed it on that return. Do you know if there have been changes to the HATC for 2023 that would have lowered our credit?

Hello WallyM,

FYI - Ontario Home Safety Tax Credit 2022
ON 479 – 63105  Ontario Home Safety Tax Credit  eliminated for 2023
This refundable tax credit for Ontario was initially intended to be for 2021 only but was extended to 2022 (not 2023).
Line 31285 Federal Home Accessibility Tax Credit (HATC) remains for 2023
