weathergirl Posted March 26, 2014 Report Posted March 26, 2014 My husband and I have a grown son who is eligible for the disability amount and we have been claiming this for a few years now. We have been using UFile Online. This year, however, the amounts are not showing up in my husband's return, specifically the caregiver amount on line 315 and the disability amount transferred from an infirm dependent on line 318. The caregiver amount is showing up in our son's return. Why is this? Quote
Gabriel Posted March 26, 2014 Report Posted March 26, 2014 To claim the amount for a disabled person who is your dependant, you should specify the disability of that person in the dependant's file. To do so, follow the steps below: 1- In the "QuikClik Navigator" of the dependent's file, located on the left-hand side of the screen, select "Medical, disability, caregiver". 2- In the screen on your right, select the option "Infirmity and disability amounts for the dependant". 3- In the page "Dependant infirmity and disability", enter the relevant information. Schedule 5 will be generated by the program in the family head's file, and the non-refundable credit for caregivers will be reported on line 315 of federal Schedule 1. As for the non-refundable credit for people with disabilities transferred from a dependent, it will be reported on line 318 of federal Schedule 1. For Quebec residents, if you wish to claim the caregiver amount, follow these steps: 1- In the "QuikClik Navigator" of the family head's file, select "Quebec credits". 2- In the screen on your right, choose "Quebec line 462 - Schedule H - Dwelling information for the tax credit for caregiver". 3- In this page, from the drop-down menu, select the option that fits your situation. The program will generate Quebec Schedule H and will carry over the amount of refundable credit on line 462 of the Quebec return. Quote
Gabriel Posted March 26, 2014 Report Posted March 26, 2014 The program will claim the caregiver amount automatically in your file if all the criteria are met, based on the dependant's age, disability status and relationship to you. In order to trigger the automatic calculation, you have to have a file of the dependant linked to your own. In order to add a dependant to your file, follow these steps: 1- Above your name in the "QuikClik Navigator", located on the left-hand side of the screen, click on the option "Add family member". 2- On the page that will appear to your right, click on "Add a dependant". 3- Complete their Interview accordingly. Should you want to control who should claim the caregiver amount for this dependant (for a married or common-law couple) or disable the automatic claim of this credit performed by the program, follow these steps: 1- Under "Select a family member", choose the dependant's return (the family member must be entered as a dependant). 2- Under the "QuikClik Navigator" select "Medical, disability, caregiver". 3- In the "Dependant's medical expenses, infirmity and disability" screen, choose"Caregiver amount to claim for this dependant (line 315, Quebec line 462)". 4- Complete the section accordingly. weathergirl Posted March 26, 2014 Author Report Posted March 26, 2014 Thanks Gabriel: I have done all this already and checked my return against last year's and the questions are answered the same, so I don't know why I'm having this problem. Quote
Gabriel Posted March 26, 2014 Report Posted March 26, 2014 Please send a request to support@ufile.ca so we can take a look at the return. Thank you. Quote
