  1. Hi

Why is the software saying I cannot Netfile (QC) because the client has a SIN beginning with 9.

The spouse has one beginning with 9 and does not have the problem.

Also a 16 yr old dependent cannot be Netfiled because there is no SIN. She does not have one and the field is blank!

      Hello Stella ,

Your social insurance number (SIN) begins with a zero. Only newcomers to Canada with a SIN starting with zero are eligible to use NETFILE.  There may also be other factors affecting the Netfile.  You can contact the CRA.  For the Dependant you can mail the tax return.

      To contact CRA :
      Contact the CRA

  2. Hello everyone.

    I'm using Ufile 2023 (u23 extension)

I created my individual tax file (Family Head ) without specifying a dependent.  I have also created another tax file for my independent that I would like to merge with mine (it was file previously, now an dependent.

Is there a way to merge the two independent files without having to re-type all the data?

    Thank you.

      Hello websters111,

Unfortunately there is no automated way to merge the files, you must enter the data manually.

      Hello LindaW,

If you are getting a reject from Revenu Québec regarding an invalid telephone number, please follow the steps below:

Go to your spouse's "Interview" section.

On the "Spouse Identification" page, answer "Yes but different phone number" to the question “Do you have the same address as your spouse?”

Click "Next" at the bottom of the page.

Enter your phone number in the "At home" field. Leave the other fields blank.

Then try to submit your tax return  again.

I previously had all my  tax years ufile programs on my desktop PC but when I had all my info transferred to my new laptop, the ufile programs did not transfer.  I can't see where I can re-download  my previous years that were installed via download.  And I do have CDs to reinstall older tax years (I need to help someone who needs to go back to 2012). Your instruction/assistance will be appreciated.

      Hello BRENDA LEGACE,

To reinstall UFile you can download from here :

      https://www.ufile.ca/products/cvitp

      Useful Links:

      CRA CVITP website
      Previous Versions: 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011.  < - -- Click UFile years(s) required

      For the data files :

      UFile File Transfer

To transfer your Ufile files ie tax returns to a new computer, please follow these steps:

1- Transfer the data files from the old computer to the new computer. These files' names have the extension ".uxx", where xx are the last 2 digits of the tax year (e.g. ..u21)

2- If your tax returns were also saved as .pdf files, you can transfer them as well to the new computer.

NOTE: For security reasons, we suggest that you transfer all files using a USB memory stick.

Service - Transfer data files by using a USB memory stick

      1. Plug the USB flash drive into a USB port on the old computer.
      2. Find a place on your USB drive to store the copied files. You can create a new folder.
      3. Drag the file(s) from the computer to the USB drive. Dragging a file to the USB drive will create a new copy of the file without deleting the original on the USB drive.
      4. To ensure you do not harm the data on the USB drive, you need to safely eject the drive. At the bottom right corner of the screen by the clock, find the USB icon (depending on your version of windows, it may have a green checkmark over it). Right-click the icon, then choose "Safely eject".
When the confirmation that says, "It's safe to unplug your device" will appear, you can remove the USB drive from the port.
      5. Plug the USB flash drive into a USB port on the new computer.
      6. Open your flash drive with Windows Explorer.
      7. Find the files you want to transfer.
      8. Right click on these files and choose the option "Copy".
      9. Paste them to the new location.
      10. Safely remove your flash drive.
