petrarob
My mom passed away in Dec 2023. She was my dependent for past 10 years. I am filling her FINAL return but will also like to file a rights and things return for some OAS / GIS and QPP income for her final month. I remember seeing a section in the deceased section interview that asked if you are filling a RIGHTS AND THINGS return but it doesn't seem to be there this year. Can anyone help me here. Thanks
Geo123
Hello petrarob, UFIle allows you to prepare the final return of a person who died during the tax year. Unfortunately, our software does not allow you to file a "Return for rights or things". To file a return for rights or things, we recommend you consult a tax professional. For more information about the tax implications following the death of a taxpayer, please visit the following links: For the CRA: https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/individuals/life-events/what-when-someone-died.html For Revenu Québec: https://www.revenuquebec.ca/en/citizens/your-situation/liquidators-of-a-succession-steps-to-follow-after-a-death/step-3-file-the-deceaseds-income-tax-returns/requirement-to-file-the-deceaseds-income-tax-returns/
